2016 Goal Recap

2016 Goal Recap

Every year I set myself some goals based on different areas of my life, I create goals as opposed to resolutions. I try to look back at my goals a couple of times during the year and see if I am on track to meet them or not and then at the end of every year I take a good look back and see what I met, what I didn’t and which of the goals I set at the start of the year no longer serve me.

So here is a recap of my 2016 Goals, I’m pretty happy with the progress I made in all of the areas that I choose to create goals – fitness, travel, life and blogging. I’ve already set my 2017 goals which I will post over the coming week. Even if no-one ever reads these posts they are great to look back on and see where you were mentally at that point in your life.

2016 Goals Recap

Fitness
// Squat 120kg
Nope! I overestimated how much I would increase on some of my lifts when I set the goals, I did do a 117.5kg on Boxing Day 2016 however so it isn’t too far off!

// Bench Press 70kg
Oh Bench Press, I am having a very hard time with my bench press this year! It’s been the centre of many frustrations, curse words and the occasional tears. I’ve been stalled at 62.5kg since April 2016, wahhh! This is going to be a big focus in 2017!

// Deadlift 150kg
Wahoo, one I can finally knock off! I pulled a 150kg deadlift at the Oceania’s at the start of December! And this is an unofficial NZ Record in the 57kg class, I’m pretty sure I got it but just need to wait until the records are updated to confirm it for sure.

// Compete at the Powerlifting Nationals in NZ
Yay, another one done and dusted! I competed at Nationals and to my surprise came Second! My original goal was to compete at the Oceanias however I didn’t back myself enough to put it down on paper.

Oceania Powerlifting Championship Recap 2016

As far as powerlifting goes I had a few other little goals which I had set myself (but I wanted to do them by the end of 2017!) but didn’t want to put down on the blog – one was to get a New Zealand Record (check) and another was to get over 400 WILKS in a competition (check). When I found out I was the number 16 female powerlifter in NZ across all weight classes I then decided that a goal before the end of 2017 was to get within the top 10 (check – the updated list has me at number 9!). So while I didn’t get all of my original goals, I have checked off all three of my mini goals that I wanted to get before the end of 2017, all prior to the end of 2016.

Travel

// Travel to one New place in NZ
I’m not actually sure if we ever made it to a completely new town or city in New Zealand, however we did do the Manawatu Gorge Walk at the beginning of 2016 with a bunch of Bootcampers and I’d never done that before, so I’m counting it!

// Travel to one new place overseas
We well and truly smashed this goal! We went to Bali for the first time ever in September for just over a week and then when we did our USA trip in November we went to the Grand Canyon and New York for the first time!

2016 Goals Recap

Life

// Complete our House
I give this one a tick – the inside of the house is complete. The outside and the office (in our shed) still has a wee ways to go, however we are going to be working on this over the summer break.

//Complete a Scrapbook (finally!)
Bahahahah! I feel as though I should just get rid of this goal because it’s been on my list for so many years now, but I really want to do it! Once our home office is complete this will be a lot easier to achieve so I think I’ll keep it there again for 2017.

2016 Goals Recap

Blogging

// Continue an average of 2-3 blog posts per week
I would say that this goal was fairly successful, for the most part I did at least 2 posts per week. While there were a couple of weeks where I struggled to get one post up, there were weeks that I did 4 or 5 which made up for it.

// Double blog traffic in 2016 compared to 2015
Nope, didn’t hit this one! Traffic did increase from 2015 but it didn’t double. This was a pretty lofty goal so I’m not totally surprised it didn’t happen. I am still stoked at the number of people who actually visit and read what I have to say!
