Selected: Commonwealth Powerlifting South Africa 2017

I MADE IT! I MADE IT! I MADE IT!

One of my BIG goals after I did my first ever powerlifting competition around two years ago was to compete at the Commonwealth Powerlifting Champs in South Africa. It was a goal I thought of then kind of dismissed until after Nationals in 2016 where I realised I was actually kind of strong and should try to take this powerlifting thing seriously. Fast forward a lot of reps, a lot of fun training sessions, a lot of rough training sessions and a few competitions and I was selected to represent New Zealand at the Commonwealth Powerlifting Champs in South Africa next month!

The preliminary nominations are out and I have been nominated first in my class at this stage which is all kinds of amazing, however anything can (and will) happen on the day so I am leaving nothing up to chance and am going to continue to train my butt off and leave it all on the platform in September!

I am going to fight as hard as I can to bring back a medal, however at the end of the day this sport really is YOU against YOU. I’ll ultimately be doing my best to improve on my last competition and smash some goals I set myself at the start of the year which include breaking some NZ Records.

Now, time to get that weight that has crept up since the last competition down so I can actually compete in my weight class 😉

Unfortunately powerlifting is not funded in New Zealand so it is up to individuals to fund their own way if they want to compete internationally.

I have decided to sell the ‘Nothing Naughty’ range of protein bars as a fundraiser. I have personally used these bars on and off for the last year or so and really enjoy them. They taste great and are a convenient snack when you are on the run. They also happen to be some of the cheapest protein bars I’ve found.
