6 Unexpected Benefits of Coconut Water + WIN

If you’ve ever travelled to anywhere in South East Asia, or Bali it is likely that you have either purchased a coconut and drunk the water straight from the coconut, or seen tourists doing so. Coconut water is super refreshing, especially in the humidity that those countries have.

The humble coconut has so many uses, from the flesh to the milk, to the coconut water or even coconut butter! Coconut water is really refreshing and is great for hydration. Today I’ve got a post for you on 6 unexpected benefits of coconut water!

Read to the end for your chance to win a case (24 cans) of CoAqua coconut water for yourself!

6 unexpected benefits of coconut water

// Nutrient Dense
Coconut water contains five essential electrolytes that we have naturally in the human body. These five electrolytes are magnesium, calcium, potassium, sodium and phosphorous. It would be difficult to obtain all of these essential electrolytes so quickly through other means. It also happens to taste delicious which is a bonus! I’ll add a note here that warm coconut water doesn’t taste the best, make sure it’s super cold when you drink it and it is delicious! My favourite coconut water is CoAqua, I actually had to double check the label that there was no added sugar (there isn’t) as it tastes SO good!

// Reduces Blood Pressure
Studies have shown that Coconut Water can actually reduce your blood pressure. Having electrolyte levels that are disproportionate can result in an increase in blood pressure. Because coconut water contains the five essential electrolytes it can be used to help bring electrolyte levels back into balance and in turn decrease blood pressure.

// Hydrates
Coconut water is a fantastic way to rehydrate as it is very nutrient dense. Coconut water is often used to rehydrate in sports with weight classes where cutting techniques are used to make a specific weight such as Powerlifting and Boxing. I’ll likely be using it to rehydrate in my next competition in December, I’ve never had to rehydrate before as I’ve always naturally sat in my weight class, however I am going down a weight class for the next competition.

6 unexpected benefits of coconut water

// Aids Digestion
Coconut Water assists in digestion due to the high concentration of fibre. We’ve all heard that fibre helps to keep you regular and this is because fibre assists with your digestion. It is important to increase your fibre intake slowly as a quick increase in fibre can be overwhelming for your gut. Start with a glass of coconut water every now and again and if you enjoy it and it fits with your goals, increase it to one glass a day.

// Hangover Remedy
Because coconut water is such a fantastic way to rehydrate it is a great hangover remedy. Often when we are hung over, what we actually need is to fully rehydrate. However it can be difficult to stomach too much water which is why people often reach for sugary beverages the day after a big night. Ditch the sugary drinks and grab a coconut water instead, it tastes super sweet (and technically does contain sugar), however it’s a more natural source of sugar than a coke or powerade for example.

// Clears the Skin
Because coconut water is so hydrating it makes it the perfect natural skincare! Often skin issues flare up due to dehydration. Coconut water is surprisingly high in Vitamin C. Vitamin C is a vital nutrient for the health of your skin. Vitamin C assists in making collagen which gives your skin firmness and elasticity. Just one glass of coconut water can contain up to 40 percent of your recommended daily intake of Vitamin C.

  6. CoAqua is amazing and it’s definitely my favourite drink! – I wish it came out of my high school’s drinking fountains!

  7. I’ll be honest and admit that, before starting my health and well-being journey some 7-odd months ago, I used to HATE coconut water. My partner, an avid gym enthusiast, was always drinking it and I thought he was mental. However now that I’m all about exercise, good nutrition and hydration, I really, REALLY enjoy a tall glass of cold coconut water!!. I guess it helped too that I’ve gone sugar-free, meaning that I can enjoy coconut water as a ‘sweet’ drink, whereas once upon a time I did not find it so.

  8. Love drinking coconut water because it’s so refreshing but also love using as a mixer with vodka & lime juice 🙂

  12. I always feel really awful after a night out, even if I’ve only had one or two drinks! I’d love to try using coconut water as a hangover cure – I had no idea that it worked like that! I already love using it in smoothies because it tastes so nice, and I need some other liquid that isn’t milk as I am lactose intolerant. Having a big 24 pack of coconut water would do me wonders! Help me out please!

  24. Since being diagnosed with hypertension I wanted to try a product that would really make a difference to my blood pressure. Coconut has really improved my systolic pressure and brought it from 156 down to 130 which is huge for me. I like to mix it up and try tropical fruit with it. I am a big fan of coconut water, mango and pineapple.
