How to arrive at your destination feeling fresh*

We are heading off to Hawaii in a little over a week and a half (can you say exciting?!?!), it’s been a little while since I did an overseas trip but I love them and am a pretty good traveller if I do say so myself.

I am going to be doing a few more travel related posts over the next few weeks, don’t worry I will be doing a Hawaii recap so you can come back to see the pictures! Meanwhile follow me on Instagram if you wish to see photos of palm trees and beautiful beaches!

Today I have for you some of my top tips to help you arrive at your destination feeling fresh! Because there is nothing worse than arriving at your exciting destination, feeling as though you have been out partying for a week and desperately need a shower.

How to arrive at your destination feeling fresh

// Keep Hydrated
I talk about hydration a lot, because it is super important! It’s even more important up in the sky in the pressurized cabins. You’re probably not going to like me for this one, but limit your alcohol as alcohol dehydrates you ever more up in the sky. Make sure to drink plenty of water, accept the water every time the drinks are offered and make sure you have a drink bottle to fill up at the drink stations on the plane (usually near the rear and middle).

// Move Around
Since you have followed my first tip you will be adequately hydrated and therefore need to get up to visit the facilities. This is a good thing, even though it means annoying the passenger next to you who just fell asleep on your shoulder. Keeping yourself moving while on a long haul flight is super important to deter the effect of DVT. When you do need to use the facilities, walk to the furtherest one away so you get some more movement going on.

// Smell Pretty
Taking a perfume on the plane with you can be a nuisance. Take one of the Impulse Fragrances with you, they are under the 100ml limit for liquids, gels and aerosols and are not breakable like perfume. This makes them perfect for putting in your handbag and smelling pretty always goes a long way to helping you feel fresh when you arrive at your destination.

// Pack your toothbrush
Ever get that feeling where you just really want to brush your teeth? Long haul flights can mean you miss your usual routine, packing your toothbrush and a small toothpaste on your carry on means you can brush your teeth either in the plane before you land or when you arrive at the airport and are waiting for your bags. I don’t know about you, but brushing my teeth makes me feel super fresh!

// Baby wipes are your best friend
It may sound weird, but hear me out. Have you ever been somewhere for a long length of time, where you just kind of sit around and you can’t have a shower? For me this is often when camping or on a plane. Using a few baby wipes to wipe your face and any other body parts that are feeling sticky, help to make you feel a lot more refreshed. This combined with packing your toothbrush can make a serious difference to how refreshed you feel come arrival time.

// Change of Clothes
Sometimes just baby wipes alone will not cut it. Sometimes you’ve been sitting in the same clothes since you left home to travel to the airport, a couple of airport stopovers and numerous hours flying later you are still sitting in those clothes and feelings decidedly average. A change of clothes, or even just a change of underwear can make a huge difference. Get changed into these while you wait for your bags to come onto the carousel!

  1. Hawaii! Have fun! I am dying of jealousy because my friend got married there today and I was invited, but couldn’t stretch the funds after a big overseas holiday last year. That makes it the second time I’ve been invited to an event there and couldn’t go haha. I’m starting to think I’m cursed!
    Have an amazing time!! x

  2. The first two are SO important especially on long haul flights as my father almost died from DVT from not being hydrated and sitting for the entire journey. It’s completely preventable, and your tips are spot on. I agreed on the smelling pretty, too! I little spritz of a lovely scent goes a long way. Great post!

    1. Thanks Christina. Your dad’s story is definitely enough to remind me to keep hydrated and moving, it can be life threatening and simple measures can prevent it! There’s nothing worse than sitting next to someone who smells awful too!

  3. Hi. Your tips are great but get water from the flight attendants. This will be bottled water. The water from the water fountain is heavily chlorinated to kill any bugs in the water tank.

  4. Nice list!

    I actually have a 2ml sample bottle of perfume in my handbag for those sorts of occasions.

    It’s a great idea to pack a small perfume but please don’t wear it on the plane. I’ve sat next to people that smelled like they spilled a whole bottle on themselves. It gives me a headache after a while.

    Also, for those who wear contacts, wear glasses on the plane. It will save your eyes. Dry eyes and contacts are not fun.

  5. Airplane food isn’t always awesome, but sometimes on long haul flights you don’t have a choice, so I always pack digestive enzymes, that way my stomach is not upset and its raring to go out and try all the new foods at my destination!

    1. Ooh yes airplane food can suck! We often just get our bags and no meals which is considerably cheaper and just pack our own meals! I’d never heard of digestive enzymes so that’s really helpful!

  6. These are all great tips – I have a lot more travel than usual in my plans this year so these are definitely a few things to remember! Thanks!

  7. My top tip that I swear by is using a panty liner. It’s a life saver. No yukky underwear feeling! and moisturiser..lots of it! Lip Balm is a must for me.
    Loved the tips Amanda! Have a great trip ๐Ÿ™‚ Looking forward to more travel posts!
