Merry Christmas & Giving Thanks 2014

Merry Christmas, Lovely Readers!!!

I wanted to write a quick post to say Merry Christmas and Thank you for following along with me on the blog and social media this year! However you celebrate (or not) the silly season, I think it’s a great time of year to look back on the year that has past and reflect on the things that happened, the things we are grateful for and start to think about what we want to accomplish in the coming year.

2014 has been a long year with a number of things that have hit me hard personally, I haven’t really talked about any of these events (in real life and on the blog), nor am I really ready too yet. I am generally a very positive person and believe that being positive and thinking about the good things in life rather than the bad help to bring more good into your life.

In keeping with this spirit I always try to think of the good in a bad situation, some people may frustrate you, piss you off, or just make decisions which are so blatantly obviously bad for them yet there is nothing you can do about it other than hope that they work it out before something awful and irreversible happens. But the light in the situation is that these people are still here, they are still in our lives and among the crappy situations there is always a little bit of light and happiness that can be found.

There are times when people leave your life (sometimes by personal choice and sometimes through moving on to the afterlife), yet you need to hold on to the good times, talk about the good times with others, look back at photos and ultimately hold on to the memories of the past.

Earlier in the year I downloaded an app on the ipad for gratitude, the idea is that every day you write down a few things that you were grateful for that day. While I haven’t done this consistently every day all year I do it when I am feeling a bit down or extra happy. I thought it would be nice to look back on some of these entries and write down some of the things I was grateful for during the year.

  • Getting home by 5pm
  • Beautiful Countryside on the way to one of my clients
  • Date Night
  • Breakfast in Bed
  • A walk after work with Kyle
  • My body for getting me new PB for squats (and all the other lifts!)
  • Being able to borrow books from the library
  • Blog Readers
  • A family member really talking to me
  • Family is Healthy
  • Dinner cooked when I got home (slow cooker)
  • Blogger Meetups
  • Living in a beautiful country
  • Hot shower
  • Being able to go home for lunch

While some of the things listed would seem insignificant for some and huge for others it is simply a reminder that there is always something to be thankful for and it’s the simple things in life like having people who love you and would do anything for you that mean the most, not the material possessions. The simple act of having dinner beside someone you love with no distractions (turning the t.v off!) is actually pretty magical yet so many people take it for granted each and every day.

Anyway, a little something to think about! I hope you all have a very Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays no matter where you are or who you are with! xx

What are you grateful for this year?
