10 must have apps for a healthy lifestyle!

Summer is here! (Well I hope I didn’t jinx it as it has been on and off over the past few weeks but given in the last four days we have had three nice ones I am hoping it is truly here to stay! Today I have for you 10 must have apps for a healthy lifestyle

Some of you may want to pick and choose which apps you will want to use depending on your goals (and for one your gender!), which is just fine. Use what works for you and delete whatever doesn’t. That’s the great thing about apps,  with a few swipes of the fingers they can be long gone and you can forget you ever downloaded them!

must have apps for your healthy lifestyle
Without further ado I present to you (in no particular order) 10 must have apps for your healthy lifestyle!

// My Fitness Pal
My fitness pal is a calorie tracker which is handy when you need to know how many calories you are consuming. It can be useful to use for a week or two to gauge exactly how many calories you are consuming and then to readjust if you are eating too many or not enough. While I would stare away from the preset 1200 calories it often seems to give females (I did it for a while and I don’t agree with it in the long run, but that’s another post!).

// Nike Training Club
Nike Training Club (NTC) isn’t an app I’ve used often to be honest but this isn’t because the app sucks because it doesn’t it is really good! It’s because I know how to create my own workouts. For those who don’t know how to create their own workouts (or can’t be bothered), log in to NTC, select a few options and you’ll have a quick exercise you can do at home (or outdoors) with no (or some, up to you) equipment!

// Period tracker
Okay so this one is only for my female readers and if you’re like me and don’t get regular periods thanks to the Jadelle implant you can skip onto the next one too. IPeriod assists in tracking your periods, letting you know when you are due again as well as giving graphs of your cycles you can also track your moods, symptoms and weight. The app also gives you reminders to examine your breasts, it really is looking our for your well-being!

Apps for a healthier lifestyle

// Sleep App
I personally don’t use one but have thought about it. A sleep app such as My Sleep Bot is a great one to consider using as it assists in finding out more about your sleeping patterns and we all know that sleep is super important. It also doubles as an alarm for you while creating super geeky graphs for you to monitor your sleeping patterns.

// Interval Timer
An interval timer is especially useful for those who are doing either circuit based training or HIIT style training. You can set the length of the intervals for your work time, rest time and the number of circuits you wish to complete. There are so many at home style workouts you can do with just your body and an interval timer!

// Gratitude
I briefly spoke about the Gratitude app in my post about giving thanks. The gratitude app is simply a reminder each day (which pops up at a predetermined time – determined by you) to note down a few things that you are grateful for each day. The app is password protected so nobody else can see what you have written unless they have the code. You also get a cute gratitude quote once you have finished each day’s entry.

Apps for a healthy lifestyle

// Water Intake
We all know how important it is to drink water but often we don’t drink as much as we should. The water intake app monitors how much you have drunken each day as well as giving you reminders when you need to drink more! The human body is predominantly made up of water and we loose it in a number of ways so it’s very important for the mind and the body to stay hydrated!

// Couch to 5k
Couch to 5K (C25K) is an app which assists you in working your way up to being able to run a full 5km without stopping. This is a great app for beginners and there is also a C210K app as well for those who have conquered the 5km run and want to start working their way towards a 10km run!

// Map my run/walk/ride
The ‘Map My’ empire is going strong, weather you like to walk, run or ride there is an option for you! When I was running earlier in the year I was using Map my run to see how far I was going. I would map out my route before I went for the run to make sure I covered the distance I needed too in my half marathon training plan. The app uses your phones GPS to see how far you have gone.

// Rock My Run
Rock my run is possibly the funnest app out of all of them! Who doesn’t prefer working out when they have some awesome tunes rocking in the background? Rock my run is a selection of mixes from DJ’s. You choose the beats per minute (fast or slow), the genre and the length of the mix (they vary from around 20 minutes to over two hours!) then download to your hearts content! Premium tracks come at a (very reasonable) price but there are plenty of free tracks which are awesome as well!

Do you use any of these apps??

  1. This isn’t something that specifically that is for healthy living, but having good music or podcasts to listen is essential – it keeps me entertained and so I power through my workout.
