Is there a place for make-up in the gym?

Is there a place for make-up in the gym?? If you had of asked me this a year or so ago I would have with out skipping a beat told you that there was no place at all for make-up in the gym and that you are there to workout and not for a beauty parade.

Whilst I still believe that you are in the gym for one reason and one reason only: To Workout, I can see why some ladies feel the need to apply a little make-up whilst in the gym. I even gave it a go to see what I thought about wearing make-up in the gym.

I’m no beauty blogger so I can’t tell you what will work with your skin tone and the reasons why you should or should not be wearing certain make-up in or out of the gym, I will share my thoughts on make-up and the gym with you. Take from that what you will.
The gym and make up, is there a place for make up in the gym?

It has come to my attention that one of the reasons that ladies shy away from the gym is due to not being confident enough to get in there in the first place. If wearing make-up helps with your confidence then I am certainly all for it.

While I certainly don’t recommend a full face of make-up at the gym (because if you’re doing what you should be in the gym, it will all slide off your face from sweating anyway!), I can see the appeal for a bit of extra coverage compared to going au natural.

If wearing make-up to the gym is something that will give you more confidence and one less thing to worry about while you are working out then I encourage you to give it a go. Just keep the make-up on the light and natural side so you don’t look like you’ve been out partying all night, the smokey eye is best for night time, not gym time. (In my opinion anyway, but like I said, I’m no beauty blogger or expert!).

I think the key to wearing make-up to the gym is to find something that you feel comfortable using, feel comfortable and confident wearing and that is light enough to make it look as though you’re not really wearing any make-up.

I have recently started trialling wearing the new Pure Effect BB Cream from Nivea* when I head to the gym for a workout. I was a little bit nervous about wearing it to the gym to begin with as I wasn’t sure if it would stay on my face and not end up running down it. I have been pleasantly surprised with the results, ie. it stays put and doesn’t cause a mess when I’m a hot mess!

I like that the BB Cream is thin enough that I don’t feel like I have anything on my face but that it gives enough coverage so that I don’t notice my imperfections as much as when I am not wearing anything at all. I also like that you can be a total make-up newbie (at 26 years old I still do not understand make-up and don’t think I ever will!), apply it and not look like a 5 year old has applied your make-up. It’s as easy as putting a little bit on your fingers then rubbing over your face until it has combined and you don’t have streaky lines of a different colour all over your face.

I think I will continue to use the Nivea Pure Effect BB Cream on days that I remember to apply it. This generally tends to be when I’m having bad skin days and want to cover up my imperfections. Which in all honesty with this Jadelle Implant playing havoc on my skin, sometimes seems to be more often than not!

  1. I never make it to the gym anymore, but when I did, a light smearing of BB cream did wonders for my confidence. I hate to be that person, but I am not always confident without something on my face. I am the mum who wears BB cream for swimming lessons with her toddler 😛
I am getting better at not caring as I get older, but I don’t judge those who want a light layer of something. Agreed that a smokey eye might not be appropriate haha.

  2. I like to wear a little bit of concealer if I have particularly noticeable blemishes, but think it is definitely a bit strange when I see women with a full face of heavy make up (I feel like telling them that it is so terrible for your pores! haha). I can understand that some women come straight from work, but I like to let my skin breathe naturally, and get rid of all the gunk in my pores, rather that sweat, and let all the foundation seep in. Sounds gross, but that is my view on it. I agree with you in the fact that if a little concealer or light weight coverage improves your confidence then go ahead! 🙂

  3. I don’t purposely wear make up for working out, but if I have it on it generally stays on as I don’t wear much make up anyway. I did unknowingly have panda eyes for a whole game of hockey when it was pouring as I’d worn mascara to work and didn’t think about it when I went to hockey…. Hehe.

  4. I usually don’t wear makeup to the gym, but sometimes it can’t help it because I come straight from work. I definitely agree with the BB cream Amanda! I am addicted to the stuff when I want something light, I believe once people become more confident coming to the gym the makeup issue just becomes moot and they might not think about it anymore? (maybe even stop wearing full makeup?!)

  5. I always take my makeup off before the gym. I might have a bit of lipstick or mascara left on but I always try to remove it. Being acne-prone, I find if I wear makeup to the gym it can lead to breakouts. Plus, it ends up smeared on my towels which is pretty gross haha.

  6. I always go to a gym without any makeup, if you care how you look when you go to a gym, this means you aren’t focused on what’s more important.
