Review: Fitbit Charge HR

I was lucky enough to win a Fitbit Flex earlier in the year (along with an entry to the Sovereign Tri Series in Wellington). When I entered the competition I just wanted to win the Fitbit, I didn’t really want the triathlon entry, however since I won it I did the triathlon.

The Fitbit worked when I first put it on but then it stopped working straight away and only ever worked when plugged into my computer, after getting in touch with the team at Fitbit I was promptly send a replacement (and upgrade) to a Fitbit Charge HR.

I have only ever heard amazing things about the Fitbit support department and my experiences with them have been great so far too.

I thought I’d do a quick Review of the Fitbit Charge HR for those who may be considering purchasing one.

In the past I have always loved gizmos and gadgets like the Fitbit as I love being able to see what I have done and use it to help me push to go harder.

I was quite keen to get hold of the Fitbit mostly so that I could have a look at my sleeping stats, as I always feel as though I haven’t had a lot of sleep even though I’ve slept through the night.

An added bonus is that you can check out your heart rate at the click of a button, which kind of makes my heart rate monitor surplus to requirements.

I forgot how good it is to have something tracking you and too try and beat it everyday. I have my goal set at 10,000 steps per day (you can set your goal to whatever you like), and on days I am getting close I have been trying to add in a little walk or a little bit more exercise to make sure I get too the 10,000 steps.

Once you reach your goal your Fitbit will gently vibrate to tell you that you have reached it. This is a nice touch and a great feeling knowing that you have reached your goal without having to check it.

The Fitbit Charge HR can also show you your incoming calls wirelessly if synced up to your phone which is a pretty nifty little tool.

I wasn’t too sure if I would use the Fitbit much given that I am reasonably aware of how much exercise I get and the calories I burn in a given period. However I am really enjoying it so far.

The sleep tracking is a great function for me as it shows me how many times I was awake and restless during the night as well as the total time I was asleep for during the night.

The sleep tracker is confirming what I suspected, that I am restless quite a bit during the night, in fact around 14 times per night seems to be my norm. This would explain why I wake up not feeling refreshed.

At least now I know that those times I am restless is in fact just restlessness and not long periods of being awake like it sometimes feels like so now I can somehow work on reducing those restless periods.

Overall I would recommend the Fitbit Charge HR to anyone who feels as though they are not getting in enough exercise as a way to encourage you to do a little more to reach your goal each day.

The Fitbit Charge HR is also great for making yourself aware of the calories you burn and how high (or low) your heart rate gets during exercise.

Have you used a Fitbit before, or would you consider using one??

  1. My husband got a Fitbit through work and I was insanely jealous. Then I realised they have the Heart Rate one and about a month after he started using his I got mine.

I love it! I find it really interesting re: HR and also sleeping. I am also amazed at how few steps I do some days. Also, glad that I don’t have to worry about my Polar HR monitor that no longer seems to work for me.

    🙂

    1. Oh my goodness I know what you mean, the other day I was only at 3.5k steps at the end of the day. Sitting at a desk during the day really does reduce your steps! I did my workout after work and managed to increase them but didn’t get too my goal. At least for me three times a week I’m on my feet for Bootcamp two hours of the day.

  2. I have a fitbit flex. I heard about them before they were even a thing in Australia haha. I had to wait SO long for mainstream stores to stock them! In fact, I ended up ordering mine online because I was so excited and impatient! I knew it would be just right for me! Of course it arrived and then suddenly they were everywhere. So funny. My husband tried to get me one originally as a gift and no-one had heard of it in our local sports shops. Now you can’t escape them!
I truly find it my best source of motivation. More than anything else. I enjoy tracking everything and seeing that it really does count. As my friends get them, it’s great to see their 7 day step counts and compete a little. For example, I am exhausted today and have done so few steps it’s embarrassing for how late it is in the afternoon! If I didn’t have the flex, I would have just written the day off. But I know because of it, I’m going to force myself onto the treadmill tonight because I just can’t let this day get by without meeting my goals!
I am interested in the fact that the HR does your heart rate too. That was the one thing I felt was missing from the flex. Maybe I’ll upgrade one of these days!

    1. Ooh yes, it is great for the competitiveness! I really do need to add some more friends so I can keep up the competitiveness too! Definitely look at getting the Charge HR, it is great having the HR on your wrist when exercising so you know when to stop resting and when to push yourself harder or give yourself a break.

  3. This is such a great blog! It informs me about the pros and cons of fitbit charger. This helps me to know about working of it which is too beneficial for me. Thank you for sharing such a nice blog.
