3 Tips for Smart Snacking

Often we are told that we shouldn’t be snacking, especially if we want to lose weight and be healthier. This post isn’t intended to be a debate on that subject but rather a handful of tips to help the snackers out there snack smarter.

Some people get by perfectly fine without the need to snack and others (myself included) would not be very nice to be around if they didn’t snack during the day as they would get their hangry face on. Snacking shouldn’t be replacing meals, instead it should be aiding you to get through to your next full meal.

3 Tips for Smart Snacking

// Be Prepared
Being prepared is one of the main keys of eating healthier in general, in fact I have written about food preparation before and often bring it up because it is so important. When hunger strikes you will reach for whatever food you have on hand, or head for the nearest shop and likely buy rubbish food. Be prepared by having great healthy options on hand and keep them in the front of your pantry or in your desk at work so that you are more likely to reach for these options than go out and buy yourself a slice or chocolate bar.

// Healthy Foods
Being prepared also means that you should have healthy foods on hand, there is no point being prepared with foods that aren’t going to fuel your body well. Have things like nuts and seeds, bliss balls and cured meats on hand so that you have something you can easily eat at your desk or while you are our and about. These type of healthy foods are also easily able to be stored in small containers in your handbag meaning that you will always have something healthy on you for when that hunger strikes.

// Serving Sizes
One of the reasons that snacking is often debated is because you are effectively eating more calories than you would if you didn’t snack. One of the keys to making snacking work for you is to keep an eye on your serving sizes and ensure that you are not eating as many calories as you would in a main meal. Nuts for example are very good for you and boast a number of health benefits but they are quite high in calories which means that you do need to be mindful when eating them as a serving of nuts is only around a handful and often we eat a lot more than this without realising it.

3 tips for smarter snacking - Nibblish

All Bases Covered by Nibblish!

A new company has forged its way into the market place in New Zealand which I have had the pleasure of trialling this month – Nibblish.

Nibblish covers all three bases for smart snacking! Nibblish operates on a weekly payment schedule (you can contact them to change this frequency or stop payments or even to temporarily stop the payments when you go on holiday!), and every week you will have four healthy individually wrapped snacks delivered straight to your door.

Each week you can go on to the Nibblish website and rate the products you had delivered so they can base your next delivery on what you enjoyed and leave out anything you may not like, you can also go in and remove products that you definitely do not want delivered from the so you will never end up with them on your doorstep. I did this with Olives as they just aren’t my cup of tea and Nibblish offer a couple of different olive products.

Since Nibblish is a weekly recurring delivery you will always be prepared! All of the goodies which come in your Nibblish delivery have been approved by a nutritionist so we know that the foods are going to be healthy and they are packaged into four perfect serving size containers so you won’t have that mindless eating that you often get with snacks.

  1. These look great! I love stuff that makes snacking smarter and easier.
    I have a real problem in the mornings. I don’t want to eat breakfast but I do need something to keep my going so I often have a few snacks during the morning that amount to a breakfast amount of calories. These would fit in my desk so easily and be ready to hand when I need them!

  2. I am a huge snacker, which as you said means I need to be prepared or some not so healthy stuff will end up being snacked on! I love nuts, so I have to make sure I watch my serving sizes – as I’d likely overeat! Oops! 😛
    I really want to try Nibblish now, especially with your great discount code. Just looking at the pictures was enough to make me drool! Plus these would be great for days up at the orchard, doing all the picking is tiring work, so it would be nice to have something healthy to snack on that I don’t have to worry about getting prepared myself!

  3. This sounds like a great service. I snack twice a day, and count it into my total calorie count for the day. If I didn’t get those little snacks, i would not be a happy camper. Does this company deliver everywhere or just in your area?

  4. I would literally eat this entire box. I’m pretty much addicted to Target’s trail mix. I bought a small bag of Caramel Cashew and yeah.. all gone. Shame. It was terrible.
