Wellington Anniversary Weekend Happenings

Seeing as those of you up in Auckland have just had your anniversary long weekend and our’s was the weekend before I thought I should get my A into G and do a post about the things that happened around our neck of the woods for our long weekend.

Usually not a lot happens in Wanganui on Anniversary weekend, 2012 however was completely different! There were heaps of events to keep us all occupied and the relatively good weather meant that a lot of people did get out and about.

Saturday night began with a drink with the parentals in town and caught the end of the  band that was playing (they shut off one of the streets in town) and then heard some of the old movie that was playing outdoors, we were still having a drink at this point so didn’t bother watching.

Sunday was the Vintage Car Club’s 100 year anniversary, there were a huge number of vintage cars on display at the racecourse, the b/f’s race car was also down there along with a number of other Wanganui race cars. On the way back to pick up the race car we came across the steam train that was going through town for the weekend.

On the Monday there was a bit of a market down along the river with a band playing and the official unveiling of the tram coming out of the shed under it’s own power, we nabbed a good window view from upstairs above the information centre!

What did you do on your most recent long weekend?
