Fergburger vs Devil Burger

If you read anything about the attractions in Queenstown it is highly likely that you will come across the name Fergburger.

Fergburger is an iconic burger joint, I’m not entirely sure how it got such a big name, I know it is mentioned in the Lonely Planet guides so perhaps it stemmed from here and snowballed from word of mouth??

What I do know is that they do incredibly large and tasty burgers. Nothing like your standard McDonalds burgers, more like a burger you would get at a pub – but it is a fast food outlet.

I tried a chicken Fergburger and it was huge, I’m sure it was about the size of my head, I also had to try the fries and aioli as that is my favourite part of burgers (Yeah thats’s part of the reason I struggle to loose weight). Total for the burger and chips was around $18NZD.

I also heard about another newer burger joint on the other side of town called Devil Burger, same idea as Fergburger but a lot less crowded – it has more space than Fergburger as well. I tried both a beef and a chicken burger here as well as their fries and aioli (it would have been rude not too right?).

Devil burger have two options for sizes for most of their burgers which is always a bonus especially if eating burgers and fries most days of your holiday is a reality along with trying not to gain weight – note, this doesn’t work so well even if you walk a lot. A burger and fries was also around $18 – although this was for the regular size not the large.

So what did I think?

For the fries & aioli Fergburger won hands down no competition at all, although I still think that burger fuel fries and aioli win the entire competition.

Now the burgers – as much as people who have tried Fergburger may gasp at my outcome – I prefer the Devil Burger by quiet a bit! Their beef burger was so amazing I still think about that Burger now and drool a little and the regular size was plenty big enough to keep me satisfied most of the day. Now this comparison isn’t entirely fair considering I never tried a Fergburger beef burger and I have since been told that the beef burgers are amazing.

The comparison between the chicken burgers though is a little fairer and to be honest neither of them blew me away and I’d have a chicken Burger Fuel burger over either of them any day of the week, but once again I would proberly go with the Devil Burger if I had to choose.

Moral of the story, try other options even if there is one option that is supposed to stand above the rest. Ohh and don’t eat burgers almost every day of your trip if you care about your weight!
Have you tried Fergburger? Was is your eating downfall when on holiday?

  1. YUM! Now I want burgers and fries and aioli (my favourite condiment)!
When on holiday I just love that type of pub fare. Steak sandwiches, BLTs, fries with aioli, and all of the nibbles you have over summer – cheese, crackers, dips, WINE…

  2. You are making me drool a little. Ok, a lot. I miss Burgerfuel! We were at Gourmet Burger Kitchen the other day (a burger franchise started here in the UK by 3 Kiwis), and my work colleague eye’s lit up when I mentioned Fergburger, and Burgerfuels’ Aioli and Doofers!

    1. Thanks for stopping by, I need to try Gourmet Burger Kitchen at the start of next year when i’m over there, sounds like my kind of place! #nomnom
