Eat Right on the Road – Snacks Edition + WIN

I don’t know about you but I seriously have no idea where this year has gone. We are almost in May already, May! It’s getting colder and before we know it, we are going to be snuggled on the couch with our Nana blankets on after work!

This year has gone particularly quick for us because we have had so much on. We aren’t usually that busy and it’s been kind of weird having something on most weekends so far this year. The fact that we have been super busy has gotten me thinking about other people who are out and about quite a bit and how often this is used as an excuse to eat poorly.

I thought it would be a good idea to put together a quick post with some super easy options for eating right while on the road. Products that keep well without being refrigerated or can be taken quickly as you run out the door to have while on your way to where-ever you are going. This post is all about different types of snacks that are easy to eat on the run.
Eating right on the road

// Nuts
Nuts and seeds are always a great snack option. Nuts are high in calories so do be wary of your serving size but they are a great healthy fat and easy to eat on the run. Either purchase a couple of the small single serve packages or a large bag and make your own snack packs.

// Health Labs Balls
I had never heard of the Health Lab balls until not that long ago when I saw them on instagram. Essentially they area large protein bliss ball in a single serving package which is perfect for eating on the run. Since they are single serve you can’t over-do it if you only have one. I got mine from here.

// Berroca Fizzy Melts
I was sent some of the new Berroca Fizzy Melts to try. The good thing about these melts is that you don’t need to have water available to have them. Simply pop them in your mouth and go. A great way to get some added vitamins and minerals into your system while out and about.

// Pana Chocolate
If you’re out and about and get a hankering for chocolate then I’d recommend getting some good quality chocolate like Pana. My favourite is Sour Cherry and Vanilla and you can purchase them online at Natural Things or in good health food stores.

// Danny’s Pita Crisps
If your the kind of person who enjoys a savoury and crunchy snack then you’ll definitely be interested to try Danny’s pita crisps. They come in a large bag so I’d break the pack down into a smaller serving size so you don’t eat them all. The slight flavour too them means that you don’t feel as though you need a dip with them which is nice!

Eating right on the road - Snacks
// Atkins Bars
A few years ago I discovered the caramel nut chew bars from Atkins and used to treat myself to one on the weekend. I didn’t actually realise they had such a big range. For those who are doing low carb or are just looking for a better for you sweet option then check out the Atkins range. I found them at Countdown.

Eating right on the road - Snacks
// Frooze Balls
Frooze balls are essentially a mix of fruit and nuts and are a good option for those times when you don’t have time to make your own bliss balls. Yes they do have a bit of sugar due to the dried fruit but I don’t have a problem with having them on occasion, especially if you are active. I found them at pak n save.

// Rice Crackers
Rice crackers are always a handy snack to have on hand, they are gluten free for those whom gluten is an issue and they are easy to eat on the run as they are bite sized. You can purchase small packets (those ones destined for kids lunch boxes) at the supermarket too which makes portion control nice and easy.

Eating right on the road - Rebel Kitchen

// Rebel Kitchen Drinks
I thought we’d better add a drink in the list of snacks for eating right on the road and these Rebel Kitchen coconut milk drinks fit the bill. I really need to get my hands on the chai one as that sounds delicious but I can attest to the chocolate being very tasty. You can order them online from here, I’ve also seen them in very select supermarkets.

WIN WIN WIN
The team at Danny’s were nice enough to offer a few bags of their Pita Crisps as a prize! To be in the draw to win simply comment below and let me know what your favourite snack for on the road is.

  1. Froze balls or homemade bliss balls plus lots of water. I would love to see if I could convert my husband to these crisps instead of the unhealthy ones he is addicted too 🙂

  2. I really love the taste of Quest bars but they’re FULL of palm oil 🙁 Also packed with artificial sweeteners 🙁 Big fan of Tom and Luke’s protein bars/bite with the mintchoc and black forest as my faves! Also keen on frooze balls , but Tom and Luke’s is always my top pick <3

  3. This is not the healthiest snack but I love droe wors. It’s a South African dried sausage that comes in long sticks. It’s cured with seasoning and salts and dried out. It’s high in fat and salt but it doesn’t take much to feel satisfied and accompanied with some trail mix, makes a great snack.

  4. I seriously love spicy broad beans as a snack for on the road. I honestly couldn’t tell you if they’re that healthy or not- but I just love them! Oxoxo
    Awesome post by the way, definitely gave me a few ideas!

  5. Almonds, the little snack packs of peanut butter, some fruits and water… Are my go to snacks when travelling by myself.

  6. Absolutely agree with you, nuts are my go to snack as that are easily transportable and great by themselves!

  7. I loved this. It is great to get some inspiration for snacks on the go. My go to snack is bliss balls…homemade or bought or nuts

  8. Ice cold water in sipper bottles which i also use as ice packs to keep other foods chilled. Fresh fruit like bananas, seedless mandarins & seedless grapes (frozen grapes are good in hot weather) apples & pears. Small pots of yogurt (freeze beforehand on hot days) rice crackers, roasted almonds/peanuts/cashews, banana chips.

  9. Love home made bliss balls. I’m really into the lemon coconut ones I’ve just made!
