Natvia Sweetener Review*

It’s no secret that I have a crazy sweet tooth, a tooth I try not too feed too often. When I do feed it I try to use more natural ingredients rather than refined white sugar as much as possible.

I use a combination of dates, honey and sweeteners when I do reach for something sweet. If you have tried artificial sweeteners before you may have had varied experiences with them. Some find them too sweet and others find they get headaches or bitter after tastes from the stevia based ones.

I was sent some of the Natvia Sweetener, which has not long been released in New Zealand to try so thought I would do a little review for you all.

I was sent the single serve sticks as well as the new icing mix to trial. I always a little bit wearing with the single serve sweeteners as I always find that they are way too sweet and I can only use half a stick otherwise my cup of tea is sickly sweet.

I was pleasantly surprised to find that using a single serve stick in my cup of tea was just perfect, not too sweet but you did notice that the tea was a bit sweeter than if you hadn’t used sweetener. They also promise no bitter aftertaste which will come as a welcome surprise to those who find they sometimes get a bitter after taste.

The Natvia sweeteners are made from Stevia which is a plant based product which has zero calories which makes it a great option for those who are watching their calories when you just feel as though you need a little something sweet.

I was also surprised to discover that Natvia actually has a texture very similar to regular white sugar, generally sweeteners have a finer texture than sugar and are difficult to bake with, Natvia however can be used just like regular sugar in baking.

I next tried the new icing mix, which has an AMAZING texture. Seriously it just melts in your mouth which is awesome. I did find that the icing mix was incredibly sweet however so next time I would make sure that I spread the icing a lot thinner on whatever I was making with it.

While sweeteners are still definitely a sometimes food, sometimes that sweet tooth rears it’s head and Natvia is a great way to get a little something sweet in to your life without reaching for the refined sugar.

Do you ever use sweeteners? What do you think of them?

  1. I’m not a big fan of sweetener because I find that it has a funny metallic taste to it. Having said that, I’ve only tried it once -so maybe I will try it again sometime.
